Custom Clothing
I have chickens and they lay eggs. Does it really matter which came first? Custom clothing is similar. You can start with a gorgeous fabric and then create a design that shows it off. Or, start with a design that flatters you and we'll pair it to a fabric to match the season.
Couture Techniques
"Couture" is the French word for sewing. Sometimes, its called “single needle.” I call it "Slow Fashion." The clothing is made to measure, tried out in muslin to perfect the fit, then sewn again in the real fabric with a lot of hand stitching. It's the only way to get a truly perfect fit and a garment that lasts a lifetime.
Restyling, updating, alterations
Because I understand how clothing is designed and constructed, I can see how to make a favorite item new again. For example, add sleeves to a bare-arm shift, lift a skirt from the waist to preserve the detail along to hem, and redesign a neckline to flatter a new haircut. These are some of the tasks I’ve done for customers.
Bridal
The perfect fit is the hallmark of a memorable Bridal Gown. Whether it is a redesign and remake of a vintage dress or alterations of a never-been-worn gown, I can help.
alterations
Even made to measure wedding gowns need some personal adjustments. "Made to Measure" usually means matching your measurements to their closest size. Rarely, does the dress fit perfectly. And, buying ready to wear almost always needs alterations. Generally, two to three fittings are required to perfect your fit.
redesigns and restorations
Wearing a vintage wedding gown is a lovely sentiment. First we clean it, then restyle it. Surpising insight: Women who wed in the 40's and 50's had narrow backs. Today's brides have athletic backs, which are broader and more muscular.
